Three Ireland’s EStars stage siege of Cork

Week Two, Curraheen Park, Cork. What a night. Three Ireland’s EStars made the journey Leeside on Wednesday, March 21st, for another series of ferocious battles, with the second league night.

Accustomed to the breakneck pace of dog racing, Curraheen Park played host to her majesty, Big Betty and the biggest road trip Irish esports has ever seen.

Once again, ten teams, representing nine League of Ireland football clubs and main sponsors Three and composed of the country’s finest gaming talent, took to the belly of Betty to face their latest hurdle.

At stake, the right to contest the Grand Finals at Dublin’s 3Arena on May 13th, where the victors will walk away with €20,000 and a trip to Las Vegas. This is not a game. This is so much more.

For week two, not only the weather upped its game, but the teams too. After an electric introduction by house percussion troupe The Hit Machine Drummers, sounding their battle cry from aboard the top of Big Betty, presenters Connor Phillips and Holly Hamilton grilled the contenders, in advance of their clashes. With stirring team displays and many individual standout performances, the games unfolded to a gripped crowd in the shadow of Curraheen Park.

St Pat’s v Bray
Fresh off the glory of opening week success, both St. Pat’s and Bray Wanderers were aiming to maintain their winning streak, but it was Bray who emerged victorious in a decisive victory. While St. Pat’s rallied, Bray secured the point in a blistering finale to take the win. Eyes firmly on the prize, Bray remain unbeaten in the competition.

Derry v Dundalk
Having both lost their opening encounters against Sligo Rovers and Team Three respectively, both Derry and Dundalk were keen to secure a win and an all-important point under their belt for week two. Derry were quickly overwhelmed by the Dundalk attack and Dundalk seized their first EStars’ victory.

Shamrock Rovers v Sligo Rovers
Reeling from their shock defeat in the opening week, Shamrock Rovers faced the imposing challenge of one of the league’s early favourites, Sligo Rovers. With their jungler Imouv3h having departed the competition, the addition of new recruit Rayezor was always set to shake the competition and the battle of the Rovers was, as expected, one of the bouts of the night. Shamrock Rovers took control of the game early and Sligo never seemed to claw back a shot at the victory. Shamrock Rovers took the points.

Bohemians v Limerick
Bohemians faced off against Limerick, another team to have seen a changing of the guard from Week One, with Irlandakoylüsü having bowed out of the competition and Kabnak replacing in Support for Limerick. Bohemians had succumbed to the Three assault in Oriel Park, while Limerick had fallen to St. Pat’s in week one. Limerick fared no better in week two and were unable to defend the assault of a dominant Bohemians. Boh’s for the win.

Three v Cork
Sponsor team Three took down last week’s home team Dundalk in the closing bout and, fresh off victory over Shamrock Rovers in Oriel Park, Cork were determined to defend their home turf. Three again impressed and neutralised the Cork challenging, emerging victors yet again. Three have now seized the home bragging rights from two teams.

Casters Oisin Molloy and Nikita Buffee explained the unfolding action to the huge Twitch audience, while the crowd on site was bolstered by support from soft drinks partner Lucozade, food sponsor Four Star Pizza, main sponsor Three and merchandise partner Peak.

Now that we are in the thick of the Three Ireland’s EStars tournament, the prospect of what we can expect to see at the finals at the 3Arena in May promises to be truly epic.”
